How to achieve the Lifemark
All over the world people are changing the way they design their homes so they work for everyone – regardless of age, stage or mobility. We are now part of a global movement toward accessible, adaptable, inclusive design features which recognise today’s changing population. Here in New Zealand this movement is represented by the Lifemark, the seal of approval which is endorsed by Lifetime Design.
After many years of international research Lifetime Design has developed a series of design standards, called LifeStandards. They promote the Lifetime Design Principles of usability, inclusive design, adaptable design, accessible design and lifetime value.
Homes and developments built to meet the LifeStandards have unique design features that provide enhanced living for all occupants regardless of age or ability. Designs that meet the relevant LifeStandard are able to apply to use the Lifemark seal of approval. A dwelling carrying the Lifemark is one that has been specifically designed for ease of use in the present, whilst also ensuring it can be easily adapted in the future as the occupants needs change.
LifeStandards Framework
The Residential LifeStandards describe two types of areas; Private Space and Shared Space. Click on the tabs below to find out more about the LifeStandards and the design Assessment Process:
