A few articles over Easter weekend have highlighted the plight that many Cantabrian Retirees are facing,

A few articles over Easter weekend have highlighted the plight that many Cantabrian Retirees are facing, namely, they don’t have anywhere to live, and have lost most of their money as a direct result of losing their homes in the February earthquake. 

However, this is not the only issue. Over 600 beds were lost in damaged retirement villages and care facilities in the Canterbury region. This means that those who do not own their own home within a retirement community, and who are reliant on care providers, no longer have the freedom to choose where they will live in their retirement.

Some retirees may end up on opposite sides of the city from loved ones, in a situation where the availability of beds is severely limited.
