In an article by the Manukau Courier this week, the sorry situation many hearing impaired people are facing has been outlined, that is, they can’t hear standard smoke alarms go off, but they can’t afford to buy the kind of smoke warning systems that will give them enough time to get outside in the event of a fire in their home.

Suggestions such as a Government subsidy have been put forward, but whether anyone who can do something is listening, remains to be seen.
