However, could there be a chance the model could be adapted to work for not only those displaced by the earthquake, but for those who in the future will require social or low cost housing as well? If a community housing provider or the Government were to purchase the prefabricated homes once displaced Cantabrians are back in their own homes, all it would cost them is the price of land and to hook up utilities to have a functional, comfortable place for many people, and so creating a “second life” from the cost incurred in producing the temporary housing.
