Maria’s ‘Mini Mansion’!
Maria lives in one of six new homes that have achieved a Lifemark® 4-Star rating, including Universal Design (UD) standards.
Accessible Properties is a subsidiary of the IHC Group and provides good quality, affordable, accessible homes and property management services to people with disabilities, older people, and those on low incomes. They have a strong focus on delivering Universal Design in their housing and have been very busy working with Lifemark® to achieve UD outcomes on multiple projects in Auckland, Tauranga and Nelson.
This development was designed by Context Architects.
She calls her home a “Mini mansion” a very peaceful location, with a view to bush from the living area, easy access from the carpark and its proximity to the back door; a very practical and modern design.’
Maria’s bathroom includes a level entry shower, grab rail next to the toilet, and reinforced walls in the shower.
Maria finds her home easy to live in. “The ease of use and placement of amenities in and around the house is perfect to live with.”
Maria finds it easy to use both the lever tapware and lever door handles – a consideration as she has limited hand function due to arthritis in her hands.
While a Lifemark® 4-Star rated home like Maria’s is designed to work best for an ageing occupant, Maria commented if she ever did require a mobility device it would be “very easy to get around, from the carpark to the main entrance. A wide main hallway and doorways are helpful for anyone transitioning around the home too.”
She also loves the indoor/outdoor living flow provided by level access out to one of her favourite areas of her new home; the patio area.
“Overall, it’s the best decision I have made in my life. It’s very much a healing process. It feels like “I have come home”
Thank you, Maria, for welcoming us into your home. It’s great to know a Lifemark® rated Accessible Property has created an improved living experience for you. We hope this continues to be your ‘home’ for life!
